Justin Amash gets destroyed by all sides after announcing potential presidential campaign
Congressman Justin Amash has announced an exploratory committee for the Libertarian Party 2020 nomination for President. In short this means that he’s going to run unless he gets hit with overwhelming negative feedback. Unfortunately for him, he’s getting hit with overwhelming negative feedback.
We learned in 2016 that a third party presidential candidate can cause problems for the frontrunner, regardless of where that third party candidate is on the political spectrum; Gary Johnson appeared to take more votes away from Hillary Clinton than he did from Donald Trump. In 2020, Justin Amash is even further to the right than Trump, but the reality is he’s giving anti-Trump conservatives an excuse to not have to vote for Biden. Amash is getting destroyed for this by all sides.
On the conservative side, George Conway called it a “terrible idea” on Twitter. Rick Wilson implied that that’ll work to keep Amash off the ballot in swing states. Bill Kristol slammed the idea of Amash running. And on the liberal side, Amash has quickly lost every bit of goodwill he might have built up when he voted to impeach Trump.
