Donald Trump just blew it

After the manner in which John Bolton alienated the anti-Trump crowd by refusing to testify during impeachment proceedings, all Donald Trump had to do this week was ignore Bolton’s new book and let it quietly flop. But Trump couldn’t do that, because he cares more about punishing Bolton than he does about the consequences that might blow back on him.

Trump and his handlers have spent the past few days getting progressively louder with their objections to John Bolton’s book. Today Trump had the DOJ file suit against Bolton, with the intention of halting publication. At this late date it seems unlikely that Trump can find a judge willing to issue an emergency injunction to stop the book from being shipped to retailers and customers, so this suit seems aimed at simply screwing with Bolton. Instead it’s having a different effect.

John Bolton’s book, the one that everyone swore they would never buy, is now the #1 bestseller on Amazon. Considering how little interest there was going to be in Bolton’s book, this has to be largely or at least partly attributable to Donald Trump’s obsessive insistence on waging war against the book. Trump just blew it again – and it’s becoming more clear than ever that he just can’t help himself. We can’t wait to see how Donald unwittingly boosts the sales of his niece Mary Trump’s upcoming tell-all book.
