Judge is not happy with Donald Trump, as his court filing stunt begins backfiring on him already

Yesterday Donald Trump made a court filing aimed at blocking the DOJ from continuing to sort the evidence it seized from his home, until a special master can be appointed to the case. The filing was essentially gibberish, but Trump seemed to think he’d pulled a fast one by filing in the next district over, so he could draw a judge he’d appointed.

We pointed out last night that this had no chance of helping Trump’s prospects. He’s spent years putting nonsense cases in front of judges he appointed, expecting them to rule his way, only to be shocked when those judges declined to stick their necks out for him. Sure enough, this strategy is once again going poorly for Trump.

The Trump-appointed judge is not only demanding that Trump provide some actual legal reasoning to support his request, she’s also demanding that Trump explain why he filed this motion in her district.

Trump thought that by filing one county over, and landing a judge he’d appointed, it would work in his favor. Instead the judge is telling Trump to get off her lawn. The judge has given Trump just three days to meet her demands, making clear that this isn’t going to work as a stall tactic either.

While it’s still theoretically possible that Trump will indeed end up with a special master in this case, it’s already clear that his odds of making this happen have not gone up simply because of this stunt of filing his request in the next district over. If anything, his odds of getting his way may have just gone down, since it appears he’s wasted these past two weeks coming up with this dumb district-hopping strategy instead of trying to come up with a court filing competent enough to actually win.
