Donald Trump Jr got himself caught up in Roseanne Barr’s racist meltdown
By now you’ve surely heard that Roseanne Barr went on a prolonged and demented Twitter bender yesterday which she capped off with a blatantly racist remark about Valerie Jarrett, prompting ABC to immediately cancel her “Roseanne” show. What didn’t get nearly as widely reported is that Donald Trump Jr got himself caught up right in the middle of the whole thing.
Fairly early in Roseanne’s meltdown, back when she was still employed, she tweeted “Chelsea Soros Clinton” with no context. The lunatic fringe right has long made up cartoonish false claims about George Soros that sound like something out of an LSD hallucination, and Roseanne was apparently trying to tap into that psychosis. This prompted Chelsea Clinton to reply in her usual firm but diplomatic manner: “Good morning Roseanne – my given middle name is Victoria. I imagine George Soros’s nephews are lovely people. I’m just not married to one. I am grateful for the important work @OpenSociety does in the world. Have a great day!”
This prompted Roseanne to reply to Chelsea Clinton in this manner: “Sorry to have tweeted incorrect info about you!I Please forgive me! By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?” At this point it was clear that Roseanne was miles and miles away from mental stability, and that she was simply ranting like someone you’d find yelling at a trash can on a street corner. So what did Donald Trump Jr do? He retweeted it, of course. Then things got worse.
After the gossip outlet Page Six wrote a story about Donald Trump Jr’s decision to retweet Roseanne Barr’s demented Nazi rant, Trump Jr then lashed out at Page Six for “lying and obfuscating” and being a “dishonest, clickbait rag.” We won’t get into what we think of Page Six in general, but they did nail the Trump Jr divorce story, and it appears that he still hasn’t gotten over it. In any case Junior has aligned himself with Roseanne’s unhinged Nazi conspiracy theories, which means that this was not a banner day for him. Then again, when’s the last time he had a good day?
