Now we know that Donald Trump Jr is going to prison
If you’ve been waiting for confirmation that things are going to end badly for Donald Trump Jr when it comes to his father’s Russia scandal, it looks like we may have all but received that confirmation today. The news actually has to do with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Donald Trump Jr’s brother-in-law Jared Kushner, but it tells us what we need to know about how this is going to end.
Mueller has spent the past few days making one positioning move after another. He indicted the Russians for conspiring to rig the election in Trump’s favor, in order to legally establish that there was a criminal conspiracy, so he can charge Americans for participating in that conspiracy. He got Rick Gates to flip on Paul Manafort, who will in turn have to flip on the Trump family. Mueller signaled today that he’s targeting Kushner for a plea deal, when he leaked to CNN that he’s going after Kushner’s Russia-connected bank loans. So what does this have to do with Donald Trump Jr?
The short answer is this: Jared Kushner may or may not cut a plea deal against Donald Trump. Now that Mueller has signaled to Kushner that he must quickly make a decision before he gets arrested, we’ll have our answer soon enough about which way Kushner goes with it. But if Mueller is going to throw Trump’s son-in-law in prison if he doesn’t cut a deal, then there’s no longer any question that Mueller will throw Trump’s son in prison if he doesn’t cut a deal.
So unless you think Donald Trump Jr is going to be willing to send his father to prison, it means Donald Trump Jr is going to prison himself. Now that Robert Mueller has legally established a Russian criminal conspiracy to rig the election, it’ll be easy to nail Junior for having participated in that criminal conspiracy when he (by his own admission in an email) met with the Russian government to try to illegally obtain dirt on Hillary Clinton.
