Michael Flynn Jr goes berserk
In the months since Michael Flynn cut a plea deal against Donald Trump and agreed to go to prison, he’s mostly remained quiet, aside from popping up at the occasional fundraiser. Flynn rather obviously pleaded guilty in the hope of convincing prosecutors not to arrest his son. Strangely, Michael Flynn Jr still hasn’t seemed to get the message, as he continues to rant about deranged conspiracy theories on Twitter that are barely distinguishable from the words of the Unabomber. Now Flynn Jr has simply gone berserk.
Over the weekend Donald Trump publicly demanded that there be an investigation into how the DOJ was investigating the Trump campaign’s various crimes. Then Trump met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Monday, and Rosenstein managed to talk Trump into essentially letting the DOJ investigate itself. Trump got comically suckered, but he nonetheless declared victory, and most of the media backed him up on it. That’s rigt around the time Michael Flynn Jr went off the deep end.
Shortly after the Trump-Rosenstein meeting ended, Flynn Jr tweeted this: “You’re all going down. You know who you are. Mark my word.” Wait, what? Is he outright threatening people, or is he just boasting that Trump is now going to magically take his adversaries down? In any case, Flynn’s plea deal didn’t specifically include immunity for his son, which means that if Michael Flynn Jr keeps mouthing off like this, Robert Mueller can indict and arrest Flynn Jr at any time.
Michael Flynn Jr’s overconfident meltdown is an example of how Donald Trump is decidedly not helping his own side by filling them with false hope about how Team Trump is going to magically be exonerated, and those who exposed Team Trump’s crimes are going to magically go to prison. Back in the real world, Michael Flynn is already locked into a prison sentence, and if his son keeps up his deranged tweeting, he may end up joining him.
