Donald Trump Jr has bizarre meltdown as Trump-Russia indictments are set in motion
Donald Trump Jr will eventually be indicted and arrested on charges ranging from money laundering, to conspiracy against the United States, to quite possibly espionage. Now you can tack on another charge: perjury. This week we learned that Robert Mueller is indeed using the charge of lying to Congress to help move things along, and it sure looks like Junior did precisely that. With his indictment potentially coming at any moment, Junior isn’t taking things particularly well.
Yesterday, NPR briefly thought it had identified an instance of Donald Trump Jr lying in his Senate Intelligence Committee testimony. Upon deeper examination, NPR concluded that Junior hadn’t necessarily lied in this particular instance. This prompted Junior to stage quite the meltdown: “Their desperation to take me out is palpable. I’ll take it as a compliment, it’s so over the top they must view me as a real threat to their #fakenews leftist agenda. Keep trying kids… I love the fight!!!” There was just one problem.
Even as Donald Trump Jr was melting down, USA Today reported that the bipartisan Senate Intel Committee was busy pouring over Junior’s testimony. Senator Richard Blumenthal characterized the testimony as “evasive” and potentially “deceptive.” The latter would indeed be perjury. Also yesterday, the leaders of the committee confirmed that they had set perjury charges in motion for multiple (unnamed) people who had testified about Trump-Russia.
In other words, Donald Trump Jr can melt down all he wants about how much he loves the “fight” in all this, but the reality is that multiple Trump-Russia perjury indictments have been set in motion, and at least one Senator is hinting that one of the indictments may have Junior’s name on it. Instead of working on his criminal defense strategy, he’s using his remaining time to tweet about a “fake news” agenda. Like father, like son – only stupider.
