Donald Trump says he wants American journalists executed
In public, Donald Trump has treated American journalists in antagonistic, dishonest, threatening, and often deranged fashion. He’s even gone so far as to repeatedly and falsely accuse one prominent cable news host of murdering a woman. Perhaps not surprisingly, it turns out Trump’s private behavior with regard to the media has been even more psychotic.
During a meeting in New Jersey last summer, Donald Trump told his associates that journalists who don’t reveal their sources should be “executed” because they’re “scumbags.” This is according to John Bolton’s new book, obtained by the Washington Post. Bolton is a scumbag in his own right for refusing to share any of these ugly details during Trump’s impeachment, so he could cash in with a book instead. But the story here isn’t Bolton, it’s Trump.
Trump may try to argue that he was merely venting when he called for journalists to be “executed” and that he didn’t literally mean he wanted them to be put to death. But this is the guy who is in charge of the Department of Justice. He can manufacture criminal charges against anyone he wants. In fact he’s got the DOJ trying to retaliate against Bolton for daring to publish the book. For the President of the United States to talk about having American journalists “executed” is automatically disqualifying. Trump should just resign now – but we all know we won’t. We’ll just have to beat him in November by an overwhelming margin.
