Josh Hawley gives up the ghost

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Josh Hawley had been relatively quiet lately, but we knew it would not last. As soon as he opens his mouth, he reminds us that he is nothing more than another loud-mouthed, ignorant, and useless traitor. Washington Post opinions writer Jennifer Rubin believes that Hawley wants to be “Putin’s new favorite pet,” but Hawley’s disservice to his office and our country goes much farther.

Hawley has taken Putin’s side in Russia’s disagreements with Ukraine. Ukraine wants to be free of Russia, even as Putin tries to tighten the proverbial noose. President Biden, knowing the importance of keeping Ukraine free of Russia’s interference, has moved toward defending Ukraine. Even though Hawley initially agreed that it would be against U.S. interests for Russia to invade Ukraine, he dialed that belief back in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In his self-serving letter, Hawley wanted “clarity” on Ukraine’s membership in NATO. Why does this idiot think they want to join NATO? Instead of supporting Ukraine’s freedom, Hawley’s intentions are clear: He supports Putin and wants to stay in his good graces. Knowing this issue as well as anyone else, White House press secretary Jen Psaki let Hawley have it.

Psaki pointed out that Hawley is taking Russian misinformation and running with it. She said to Hawley during her briefing: “You are not aligned with long-standing bipartisan American values, which is to stand up for the sovereignty of countries—like Ukraine.” She schooled Hawley on America’s history of fighting against the invasion of countries by other, more powerful countries, preventing those countries from forming their own alliances and standing for their own values without interference. Hawley, in his most Trump-like way, then tried to turn things around, claiming that the Biden Administration is “coddling Russia.” Really? It sounds more like Hawley is coddling Russia, but he thinks we are all so stupid that if he turns things around, we will forget what he said the day before.

Jen Psaki is not the only person in Washington who minced no words with Hawley. Adam Kinzinger tweeted in response to the Hill’s article about Hawley advocating dropping support for Ukraine. Kinzinger called Hawley a “self-aggrandizing con artist,” which is spot on. Just like Trump, Hawley talks to hear himself speak. It does not matter that what flows from his open mouth is garbage or that he succeeds only in making himself look stupid. In a way, you wish he would continue just to see how far he goes, but honestly, there is only so much of Josh Hawley a sane person can take.

Hawley is yet another Retrumplican who has no place in Washington. Everything he does is for attention and his own satisfaction. He does nothing for the people who sent him there, and he certainly does nothing for the rest of us. He is merely a wasted seat that could be occupied by someone who seeks elected office for the right reasons. Hopefully, the Midterm elections will rid us of some of the nuts who have taken root in Washington.
