Donald Trump gets lambasted for making inappropriate joke about stock market collapse

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier today, Donald Trump’s handpicked Fed Chair Jay Powell said that he wasn’t going to arbitrarily cut interest rates because it wasn’t within his power to undo the damage done by Trump’s failed trade war. Trump then announced that Powell was an enemy of the United States, and “ordered” American businesses to stop doing business with China. Investors weren’t impressed, and the stock market quickly plummeted. Now Trump has made things worse.

This is what Donald Trump tweeted in response to today’s stock market collapse: “The Dow is down 573 points perhaps on the news that Representative Seth Moulton, whoever that may be, has dropped out of the 2020 Presidential Race!”

In other words, Trump thinks this is funny. The stock market is tanking, the economy is a mess, people’s savings are being wiped out, and the President of the United States thinks this is all a joke.

The responses to Donald Trump’s tweet were anything but kind. Various people pointed out that Trump caused the stock market to plummet and then made a joke about it. Others pointed to the tweet as further evidence that Trump is too mentally unstable to remain in office.

Remarkably, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was actually down around 530 points at the time that Donald Trump claimed it was down 573 points – but it ended up closing down 623 points. Every time Trump opens his mouth about the economy, investors pull further out of the market.
