Why it’s so important that John Oliver said what he just said about Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For quite some time now it’s been rather obvious that when this is all said and done, Donald Trump is going to end up in prison. He’s facing a nearly endless – and rapidly lengthening – list of criminal charges ranging from conspiring against the United States, to obstruction of justice, to money laundering. Even if the federal charges only serve to oust him as opposed to imprisoning him, the state level charges will imprison him. The thing is, pointing this out tends to get you into trouble.

Whenever Palmer Report points out that Donald Trump will end up in prison, we get falsely accused of having said that Donald Trump will end up in prison tomorrow. The false accusations come not only from Trump’s supporters, but also from that pocket of people on the left who inexplicably spend their time dishonestly trolling liberal news outlets all day, because they mistakenly think it makes them look judicious in the eyes of their fellow liberals.

This is a big part of why you don’t generally hear political pundits willing to point out this will end with Donald Trump behind bars. But that just changed in a big way last night when John Oliver, one of the most fearless people on television, said this: “Trump is going to wind up behind bars with Giuliani visiting him and saying, ‘Don’t worry Donald, ‘prison isn’t prison.'” Yes, Oliver is a comedian, and yes, this was a punchline. But as we’ve seen from Jon Stewart and the best of those who came before him, comedic political pundits are usually willing to speak the controversial truth before any other pundits are.

So it’s a big deal that John Oliver is now talking about Donald Trump going to prison. It doesn’t mean that cable news will now begin promptly acknowledging it as well. But it does get us a step closer to the mainstream media acknowledging how this is going to end – and it’s also a sign that Trump’s ultimate fate is becoming more obvious by the day. Once CNN and MSNBC finally begin pointing out that Trump is headed for prison, it’ll change the mainstream American narrative about Trump being a criminal.
