John Cornyn is bluffing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Republican Senator and longtime Trump stooge John Cornyn has begun loudly weighing in on each of President Biden’s nominees, and announcing which ones will be rejected, as if he has that kind of power. In reality he does not.

For starters if the Democrats win the Georgia Senate runoffs, then Biden gets all his nominees. If we lose the runoffs, then Romney, Collins, and Murkowski will be the swing votes on nominees. They’re not to be trusted, but they’re not Cornyn.

My guess is that Romney, Collins, and Murkowski will approve the majority of Biden’s nominees, because they don’t want to be seen as obstructionists, but they would make a point of rejecting one or two Biden nominees in order to play both sides. This is clearly not the outcome we want, so let’s make sure to win the Georgia runoffs.

But let’s also keep in mind that someone like John Cornyn doesn’t suddenly have a magic wand just because he starts running his mouth in an authoritative manner, and just because the media regurgitates it while failing to point out that Cornyn has no such power. The reality is that Cornyn has zero say when it comes to Biden’s cabinet. Either ignore Cornyn, or go remind him on Twitter that he’s bluffing.
