John Brennan catches Donald Trump in the act

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

From the increasing reality that impeachment is coming, to the subpoenas that just went out for Hope Hicks and Annie Donaldson, to the leaked memo confirming that the Treasury Department must release Donald Trump’s tax returns, suffice it to say that little is going Trump’s way today. So he decided to do what he does best: lie. It promptly blew up in his face.

This evening Donald Trump posted this quote from former CIA Director John Brennan about the Trump-Russia investigation: “I don’t know if I received bad information, but I THINK I SUSPECTED THAT THERE WAS MORE THAN THERE ACTUALLY WAS.” The thing is, this quote is two months old. Brennan said these words shortly after William Barr released a four page summary of the Mueller report, which has since been exposed as a fictional summary.

Brennan was quick to pounce. He quoted Trump’s tweet and explained the real story: “I subsequently learned from the Mueller report that there was a lot more evidence of collusion and obstruction of justice than was indicated in the misleading & highly politicized Barr memo. Your obvious fear of Congressional action is warranted & your dishonesty is appalling.”

It’s not clear why Donald Trump even bothered with this stunt, as it’s so easily exposed as fraudulent. Did Trump really think he could get away with passing off a two month old quote as if it were spoken today? Or is Trump truly so far behind the news cycle, and relying on such sloppy handlers, he truly didn’t realize this quote was from March?
