Joe Biden just made a really smart move
On Wednesday morning, I wrote a column urging everyone on Team Biden to go ahead and begin loudly pointing out that Joe Biden is in fact winning this election over Donald Trump. Biden is ahead in every swing state, and Trump is currently on track for defeat. We should make sure everyone knows that getting behind Biden is a winnable battle, and not some lost cause.
Maybe Joe Biden’s campaign has been reading Palmer Report, or maybe they just have an impeccable sense of timing. Either way, the Biden campaign stressed to reporters today that it’s “pulling ahead” in swing states and that it has a “clear path” to winning the Electoral College.
This is the correct approach. Complacency is our enemy, but in an election like this, no one is going to take anything for granted. It’s possible to simultaneously make sure everyone knows Joe Biden is winning, so people will want to join the bandwagon, even while studiously putting in the work required on things like voter registration and turnout.
Joe Biden doesn’t just need to win, he needs to win big, in order to overcome any hijinks Trump and the GOP might end up trying. The best way to do that is for the Biden campaign to flex its muscles about the fact that it’s already winning, and look to build broader support from there.
