Joe Biden just baited Donald Trump into harming himself

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Whether you want Joe Biden to end up becoming the 2020 Democratic Party nominee for president or not, there’s good reason for you to want him to be in the race right now. This was evidenced today by just how quickly Biden managed to bait Donald Trump into harming his own 2020 electoral prospects.

Joe Biden kicked off his campaign with a video which went squarely at Donald Trump, particularly in regard to Trump’s assertion that there were “very fine people on both sides” of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. Of all the numerous ignorant, offensive, and stupid things that Trump has said and done over the past couple years, his remarks about Charlottesville โ€“ in which he directly tied himself to neo Nazis and the murder of Heather Heyer โ€“ arguably hurt him the most. This was evidenced by the fact that Trump ended up having to later walk back his own remarks, in the hope of stopping the bleeding.

It’s not just that Biden managed to put one of Trump’s worst moments back in the headlines โ€“ it’s that Trump took the bait today. He stood in front of the cameras and began talking about the Charlottesville debacle, insisting that he only defended “both sides” because “people were there protesting the taking down of the monument of Robert E. Lee. Everybody knows that.” While Trump might help himself with his base aligning himself with a racist traitor like Lee, it hurts him with everyone outside his base, including those in the middle who still aren’t sure which side to believe when it comes to the ongoing assertions that Trump is a racist.

In any case, Donald Trump is hurting himself badly by bringing up Charlottesville at all, and he’s only doing it because Joe Biden forced the issue. Biden seems to know precisely how to not only get under Trump’s skin, but which issues to push in the name of getting Trump to harm himself. Regardless of who ends up being the Democratic nominee for president, Biden’s current effort is helping the Democratic Party’s chances of winning in 2020.
