Jim Jordan throws a tantrum
When a couple dozen House Republicans tried illegally storming and occupying a secure SCIF room yesterday in a last ditch effort at preventing a key Pentagon official from testifying to the House impeachment inquiry, it went absolutely nowhere. The resulting media coverage ended up being negative for Trump and the GOP, and the witness ended up testifying yesterday anyway. Now one of Trump’s House GOP allies is throwing a different kind of tantrum.
So many key witnesses have come forward to offer cooperative testimony in Donald Trump’s Ukraine scandal, the House Democrats have been trying to figure out how to fit them all in. In order to keep the closed-door hearings from dragging out forever, they’ve asked State Department official Philip Reeker to testify this Saturday. Reeker is presumably just fine with it, but let’s just say GOP Congressman Jim Jordan is approaching it differently.
Jim Jordan has written a letter to Reeker, demanding to know why he’s testifying on a Saturday, and calling for him to testify on a weekday instead. You’ve got to be kidding, right? Nope, this is real. Chad Pergram of Fox News broke the story, and Axios has obtained an actual copy of the letter. This is what Trump and his allies have reduced themselves to.
Even if Jim Jordan’s tantrum were to work, which it won’t, it could only possibly slow down the House impeachment inquiry by a day. This comes after yesterday’s illegal SCIF raid didn’t slow down the inquiry at all, not even by a day. These juvenile antics aren’t accomplishing anything. Then again, they’re not designed to. They’re just symbolic tantrums aimed at pleasing the ever-shallow Donald Trump, and keeping him from going into a complete funk as his world falls apart.
