Jim Jordan, please proceed

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Various House Republicans in far right districts are now flip flopping today and announcing their support for Jim Jordan to become Speaker of the House. This isn’t particularly surprising. House Republicans always each do whatever they think is going to play well in their home districts, because all they really care about is getting reelected. After all, if they lose their seat, they can’t keep using their office to grift.

So now Jordan’s fate will come down to the fourteen House Republicans I’ve been talking about since the start of this process. They’re the ones who are seeking reelection in toss up races, and have to worry that the overall House Republican antics will play poorly in their moderate districts. These are the same fourteen House Republicans who just got done forcing a budget continuing resolution two weeks ago. I don’t know what they’ll do when it comes to Jordan, but it’ll come down to the fourteen of them.

In any case, if House Republicans do decide to make Jim Jordan the Speaker, then so be it. He’s long been knee deep in scandals, and he’s only “gotten away” with it because he’s been just below the general public’s radar. Now he wants this big spotlight? Fine.

The mainstream media always falsely portrayed Kevin McCarthy as a reasonable moderate, which made it difficult for us to use McCarthy against the Republicans. But if Jordan becomes Speaker, we can make sure that his ugly scandals are the lead story every day. We’ll force the media to cover these scandals. It’ll keep Jordan’s House agenda from getting any real traction. And then we’ll use Jordan as the poster child for making sure those House Republicans in toss-up districts lose their seats in 2024, thus handing the Democrats the majority.

So if House Republicans really do decide to make Jim Jordan the Speaker tomorrow, then by all means, please proceed. It would be an extraordinary mistake on their part – and an extraordinary opportunity on our part.
