Jim Jordan just met his match

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. It’s about time someone told Jim Jordan to stick it where the sun don’t shine, and DA Fani Willis did that. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution released Willis’s response to Jordan’s ridiculous August 24 letter. In his letter, Jordan tried very hard to paint Trump’s prosecution as either (1) a political stunt or (2) directly related to federal “interests,” as Jordan terms it. Let’s break this down so that even Jim Jordan can understand. Donald Trump made the decision to interfere in state-run elections. He had no authority in individual states and tried to get elections officials to cheat for him by throwing out votes or changing the totals. Everything that he did related to state-not federal-elections. The charges against Trump in Fulton County rightfully belong to the state of Georgia, not the federal government. It is not Jim Jordan’s job to read Willis’s mind to discuss her “motivations.” No matter how hard Jordan tried to sound smart, his arguments fell flat because he’s not even close to being as smart as he thinks he is. Willis showed him that in her response.

First, Willis pointed out the many inaccuracies and “misleading statements” in Jordan’s letter, neither of which come as a surprise. Willis decided to school Jordan on the law and proper procedure, including congressional procedure. That’s downright embarrassing. In her letter, Willis pointed out to Jordan: “As you know, Chairman Jordan, the congressional power of inquiry ‘is not unlimited.” She followed that statement with appropriately related case law. She further schooled Jordan on the fact that “Congress is not ‘a law enforcement or trial agency'” and told him outright that his actions offend “each and every one of these settled principles.” She went on to tell Jordan that he was doing nothing more than attempting to obstruct a criminal proceeding in Georgia and to advance his own partisan goals. In other words, Fani Willis can see right through Jordan, and she’s not having it or entertaining Jordan in any way. If you’re going to start a fight with a seasoned lawyer, you had better have something to lean on, and Jordan’s assumptions don’t cut it. To really stick it to Jordan, she quoted from HIS letter to the House Select Committee wherein she quoted his rant: “This unprecedented action serves no legitimate legislative purpose and would set a dangerous precedent for future Congresses . . . the American people deserve better.” Wow. Note to self: don’t cross Fani Willis; she is well-versed in the law and in proper procedure. She made Jordan look like a fool.

Willis is correct that Jordan merely wants to interfere in her criminal investigation for the sole purpose of trying to save Donald Trump’s neck. That is not his role as a congressman, and Willis pointed that out to him in her letter. Please do take the time to read it in its entirety. It is, as some would say, a humdinger. She put Jordan in his place, and he needs to stay there.
