Jen Psaki drops the hammer
There are few Press Secretaries I have ever seen who are as professional and serene as Jen Psaki. Psaki has been an immense success in her role. It has been such a relief to see someone sane and intelligent in this role after watching so many former Press secretaries who were really no more than incompetent sycophants of the former guy (looking at you, Sarah Huckabee Sanders!)
But sadly, Psaki has some trolls. These are people who are seemingly filled with bitterness and want to project that bitterness onto others, such as the sunny Psaki. And sadly, some of these trolls include members of the media.
Most of us have dealt with internet trolls at one time or another, and we all have the luxury of ignoring their tremendously boring ways. Psaki does NOT have that luxury when dealing with the Press — and it appears some members of said Press are more interested in playing “gotcha” and tearing Psaki down than anything else.
Jen, however, always handles herself with dignity and grace. Take what happened the other day. Psaki was confronted by a somewhat deranged member of the media who actually asked her what she thought about the claim that President Biden is acting “Trump-like.”
That’s right. Someone asked that foolish question. Comparing President Biden to the orange insurrectionist is kind of like comparing a beautiful swan to a skunk’s ass. Yet Psaki handled the situation wonderfully, even responding with some snark.
Here is part of what she said: “we’re in the middle of a pandemic, which by the way, we would have made progress on had the former President actually addressed the pandemic and not suggested people inject bleach.”
Ouch! She went on: “I think people would be pretty hard-pressed to argue that the President has taken an aspect of the former president’s playbook and used it as a model of his own.”
Wow. It is so lovely to hear sanity and rational statements! Who knows? Perhaps one day we will see a President Psaki. Stranger things have happened.
