January 6th judge has had enough

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Judge Royce Lambert was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the federal bench in 1987. Continuing the duties for which he was appointed, Lambert recently had something to say to his fellow Republicans. Lambert is the longest-serving judge on the bench in D.C. He called what Trump and his allies are doing “an ongoing danger to the nation.” Judge Lambert said: “In my thirty-seven years on the bench, I cannot recall a time when such meritless justifications of criminal activity have gone mainstream.” He took the opportunity in his sentencing order for one of the January 6 defendants to speak his mind.

Judge Lambert first addressed the defendant, James Little, criticizing Little’s abject refusal to take responsibility for his actions on January 6. He then discussed the “public figures” who have “tried to rewrite history, claiming rioters behaved ‘in an orderly fashion’ like ordinary tourists, or martyrizing convicted January 6 defendants as ‘political prisoners’ or even, incredibly, ‘hostages.’ That is all preposterous.” He went on to clarify that January 6 was not a “protest that got out of hand. It was a riot; in many respects a coordinated riot.” Judge Lambert made clear that what the rioters did on January 6 broke the law, yet MAGA Republicans have taken to calling the rioters “hostages.”

These people are not hostages. They engaged in lawbreaking. While many of them claim that Donald Trump led them to that point, they should have used their common sense. They should know political rhetoric when they hear it. This all goes to show how Trump crosses the line daily. He did it back in December when he and his son Donald Jr. came to the defense of a man known for his racist, antisemitic, anti-Muslim, and homophobic diatribes online. He attacks people at will with little or no recourse. It is doubtful that even the $83.3 million judgment against him in the Carroll trial will stop his behavior. Nothing will stop his behavior unless and until he is convicted of the crimes with which he has been charged or until he is banned from the ballots in all 50 states.

He has tried to blame President Biden for his woes when he brought them on himself. He is blatantly disrespectful to those who refuse to back him, most recently starting a feud with UAW workers after they endorsed President Biden. It’s easy to see why they’re backing Biden over Trump. Biden has accomplished things while in office; Trump accomplished nothing. According to Forbes, Trump accused Shawn Fain, the UAW chief, of “playing into the hand of China,” but Trump had no qualms about taking millions from China during his presidency. Fain said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that Biden has “a solid history of serving others and serving the working class” and that Trump “has a history of serving himself and standing for the billionaire class.” Both statements are true, but Trump can’t handle the truth. He thinks he can out-talk everyone else, but only his supporters even listen to him. Everyone else ignores him, as we should.
