Jack Smith’s death stare

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump being under arrest, and having to appear in court sparked a frenzy. That’s understandable. It’s not every day a former President gets federally indicted. And so much was made of his court appearance. But one thing that happened has people talking. One thing is sparking a flurry of whispers, and it’s not about Trump.

It’s about HIM. That “him” was sitting in the front row. And he never for one moment took his eyes off the legal prize — that prize being Donald Trump. It was, of course, Jack Smith. Smith appeared in that courtroom in Miami. He said quietly, and he — stared.

He stared at Donald Trump. He never once allowed his eyes to flicker away from his prize. It indeed was something. And what was he thinking? That we don’t know. Jack Smith is inscrutable. He never lets his emotions show.

He’d make an excellent poker player. But there he was, right on schedule. And yes, he stared. There was so much in that stare — so much intensity—such a strong rebuke of the Donald. His gaze was so intense, so unbreakable, that it caused an immediate reaction. Journalists started reporting on that icy, almost hypnotizing stare.

Was this psychological warfare? If it were, I’d say Jack Smith won. Donald Trump was shaken. This was evident in the speech he gave afterward in my New Jersey. He was on the defensive, furious at Jack Smith and lashing out in the way only failed wanna-be dictators knew how to do.

I wonder if that stare will linger in Trump’s nightmares. He must know what he’s up against. Of course, he will likely find excuses in his tiny brain. He will try to compare himself to Jack Smith, to rationalize away that smoldering, smoky-eyed stare that had the power to reduce Trump to ashes.

But deep inside, I believe Trump knows the truth. If this was psychological warfare, Trump just lost. What else could he expect? He’s up against the master. He’s up against someone who has prosecuted war crimes. Trump is like silly putty in his hands.
And Smith’s stare said all of that and more.
