If Jack Smith were a private practice attorney, I would hire him in a minute. He is going after Donald Trump from every possible angle, and that, my friends, is how you trap a rat. Last week, the media was inundated with stories of Smith using Trump’s own words against him. Those reports were damaging, and Smith’s most recent filing makes things worse.

Politico reported that Jack Smith recently revealed a secondary investigation to refute Trump’s lies that voting machines were manipulated by foreign entities. This is just another step in Smith’s quest to prove that Donald Trump knew he lost the election and perpetrated a fraud on the American people. Recall that shortly after the election, cybersecurity head Christopher Krebs stated that the 2020 election was “the most secure in American history.” He said there was no evidence of deleted, lost, or changed votes and that voting machines were not “in any way compromised.” He paid with his job for making those statements, as Trump fired him shortly thereafter. Jack Smith took a page from that book and interviewed more than a dozen of the top intelligence officials in Trump’s administration.

Smith’s team apparently works around the clock, as they made a filing on Saturday that negates Trump’s additional claim that foreign governments infiltrated our voting systems and changed votes. Let’s be real: most foreign governments probably wanted Trump back in office because of his uselessness and stupidity. Smith’s filing not only adds yet another layer to Trump’s crimes, but it also seeks to stop unnecessary delays in the proceedings. Trump had asked for extended discovery that has no bearing on this prosecution and which is not based in law. In other words, Trump’s attorneys are trying to conduct yet another fishing expedition, and Smith’s team is not having it. In fact, Thomas Windom, senior assistant special counsel, wrote in the brief that they interviewed multiple security intelligence people under the Trump administration about outside interference: “The answer from every single official was no.” Windom also wrote that Trump “tries to create a false impression” and to “manufacture confusion” by citing “irrelevant network breaches,” all in his claim that votes were compromised. Trump doesn’t have even a half leg to stand on, and his attorneys cannot find any useful ways to defend him because he’s wrong.

Many of the Special Counsel’s filings show what a huge liar Donald Trump is and how he goes back and forth on issues. For example, just after the vote, Trump called the election “virtually impenetrable,” yet he now claims people penetrated voting machines to change the vote. The only person of whom we’re aware that penetrated voting machines was the man from SullivanStrickler who visited Coffee County, Georgia, on behalf of Trump’s team. Donald Trump has lied from day one and is now trying to escape a situation of his own doing. Trump’s lies may get a pass from his followers and fellow MAGA Republicans, but they will get him nowhere in a court of law where the truth is everything.
