Jack Smith quietly wins a round with Judge Aileen Cannon

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

So much Trump news pouring out into the ether from literally everywhere! And in that regard, there is some news out of the Sunshine state. There is news out of Florida that pertains to Jack Smith and nobody’s favorite judge. Aileen Cannon. And the news is good for us.

Jack Smith made a filing on Tuesday, and it was a speedy trial report. In the filing, Smith explains that the Speedy Trial Act requires him to file such reports. Smith also notes that 70 days remain on the speedy trial clock. “A speedy trial is a foundational requirement of the Constitution” Smith notes.

But there is more news about Judge Cannon. Apparently the alligator woke up from her sleep in time to slither over to her office and give Jack Smith quite a big win. Last Friday, Cannon granted Smith the right to move forward with jury questionnaires. This is a pretty big win that somehow got lost in all the Holiday news cycles.

The order, which was paperless, asks both sides to “meaningful confer” and “file a joint jury questionnaire for the court’s consideration.” She wants this done by February 28 of next year. Trump’s team appeared angry about this order calling it “a waste of time.”

Sorry, Charlie — this round goes to Jack Smith. In fact, Trump hasn’t won any round with any of his judges yet. Perhaps that is why he can be found regularly stomping his feet and screaming like the madman he is on Truth Social.
