Jack Smith meets with Donald Trump’s legal team, even as barricades go up around Fulton County courthouse

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

So Jack Smith met with Donald Trump’s legal team today about the impending indictment, even as Fulton County erects barricades around the courthouse. Neither indictment is happening today, but both appear truly imminent. Tomorrow? Monday? Who knows at this point.

Trump’s people presumably knew last night that they’d be meeting with Smith but didn’t leak that, and instead leaked that they expected the indictment to happen as soon as today – which the media now says is not happening today. This feels like a bit of pointless misdirection on team Trump’s part.

And yet the grand jury did meet today, and is reportedly still meeting. But the media has been informed that they’re not voting on an indictment today. Did they simply not finish the process? Will they be brought in tomorrow, on a day they don’t normally meet, to finish it?

Meanwhile on the Georgia front, it’s not surprising to see barricades going up. Fani Willis’ stated timeframe for indictment starts July 31st, which is this Monday. Doesn’t mean her indictment will happen Monday. The barricades could be there to protect grand jury proceedings. It could be a sign that the Fulton County grand jury, which appears to have spent the past week handling other cases, is now preparing to handle the Trump case.

But the Jack Smith election indictments and the Fani Willis indictments sure are coming down to the wire together. It’s enough to make you wonder if her indictments are based around the federal indictments.

In any case, I’ll stress again that trying to predict the precise timing of an indictment is nothing more than an educated best guess, and an opportunity to guess wrong. The good news is that these Trump indictments are obviously happening, and very soon. If you’re feeling slightly aggravated at having to wait for the news, imagine being Donald Trump right now.
