Jack Smith knows what he’s doing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Ronna Romney McDaniel used to go by her full name until Donald Trump named her RNC chair. Out of deference to Trump, she dropped her maiden name because of his dislike for Mitt Romney. We’ve always heard that “blood is thicker than water,” but apparently that is not the case with a Trump supporter. McDaniel is all in with Trump, and how deeply she’s in has been revealed by recent evidence of her involvement in Trump’s election interference in Michigan. Her behavior is certainly showing her difference from Mitt. While he is a classic flip-flopper, he wanted nothing to do with Donald Trump and voted for his impeachment.

Shan Wu, a defense attorney and former prosecutor, appeared on CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta to share advice he would give to McDaniel: “Lawyer up and shut up.” McDaniel is the one on the tape offering the Michigan canvassers an attorney if they just went home and didn’t vote on the certification they had already approved. Many experts believe this is little more than blackmail. Wu further called the released tape “extraordinary” and McDaniel’s offer to the workers as “quid pro quo.” She offered them something of value to not do their jobs.

Another former prosecutor, Harry Litman, believes that McDaniel “put herself in real legal jeopardy” and that her actions are “almost certainly” a state crime. He explained: “Michigan law prohibits bribery, getting a public official to try not to do their duty by offering something of value.” More than the state of Michigan, McDaniel should be worried about being one of Trump’s “unindicted co-conspirators” named in the indictment Jack Smith filed in D.C. One thing about Smith is certain: he is thorough, he is determined, and he has a lot of evidence.

According to CBS chief correspondent Robert Costa, Smith’s case is “sprawling.” Costa also believes that the 2024 election will center around January 6, when Trump incited his followers into insurrection against the government. How can it not? What Trump did was so outrageous that most in the U.S. couldn’t believe what was happening, even as they watched it unfold. It was appalling watching those people take over the Capitol, treat Capitol police like they were nothing, and vandalize a symbol of this country. While they repeatedly shouted out “our house,” they certainly didn’t treat it like their house.

Trump caused this, and we continue to hope that Jack Smith gets him on the charges relating to that event. Trump can continue to claim he was acting within the scope of his office, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Smith will show that Trump created and participated in a plot to overturn the fair results of the 2020 election. While many of us watched the House Select Committee go over much of this same evidence, Smith has subpoena power, giving him the ability to go far beyond what the Committee was able to unearth, including phone records, memos, diary entries, and eyewitness testimony. Don’t let the “doom and gloom” media reports dishearten you. Smith knows what he’s doing, and he has Trump in his sights.
