Jack Smith got what he needed out of Donald Trump’s arraignment
There’s a lot of consternation today about the fact that Donald Trump wasn’t given house arrest today, and was instead released until trial. But there was one key restriction placed on him, which is that he’s not allowed to communicate with any of the witnesses in the trial. As with all court matters, this “list” of prohibited witnesses is being hammered out before being finalized. But it sets up clear restrictions on Trump.
Here’s the bigger point. if Jack Smith didn’t even seek house arrest or any other restrictions on Trumps movement, it’s because he wants/i> Trump out there running around and running his mouth and trying to obstruct and tamper, so he can nail Trump for that too.
These things are easy to understand if you take a minute to think them through, instead of just emotionally jumping straight to the worst case scenario and assuming it’s a loss. Right now either you trust what Jack Smith is doing or you don’t. If you trust that he knows what he’s doing, then you’ve got to trust him to do it.
