Jack Smith drops the hammer on Donald Trump over Truth Social posts

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When Donald Trump began running his mouth on Truth Social about the criminal cases against him, my first thought was “please proceed!” This is the criminal justice system, not politics. Such antics can’t possibly help Trump, and can only serve to hurt him. We’re now getting a good reminder of that.

Judge Tanya Chutkan warned Trump up front that if he made inappropriate social media posts about his upcoming trial, she would interpret it as a sign that the trial should take place sooner rather than later, so that Trump’s antics can’t risk tainting the jury pool. Trump then kept quiet for a bit, but he’s way too far gone to know what’s good for him, and so he’s now back to making inappropriate posts.

Trump filed a motion to vacate, which is little more than a blatant stall tactic. It was never really going to help Trump. But now it’s backfiring on him, because Jack Smith and the DOJ are citing Trump’s social media posts as a reason for why the judge should deny Trump’s request.

This judge told Trump that his social media antics would lead to a swifter trial date. Now Jack Smith is seizing the opportunity to remind the judge of this. Trump will now very likely lose this motion. The more he runs his mouth online, the more likely he is to keep losing motions in front of the judge. So by all means, Trump, please proceed.
