Ivanka Trump has a whole new problem
When Donald Trump decided to enter politics, thus exposing his entire crime family to intense scrutiny, various observers expected that his daughter Ivanka Trump would be the only member of the family smart enough to keep herself out of legal and/or reputational trouble. As it turns out, Ivanka is now facing serious trouble on both counts.
First came the Michael Cohen sentencing memo on Friday, which revealed that Cohen’s communications with Dmitry Klokov were central to the Trump-Russia criminal election scandal. That’s trouble for Ivanka Trump, because BuzzFeed reported earlier this year that it was Ivanka Trump who first connected Cohen with Klokov. That means Robert Mueller has certainly been digging into Ivanka’s role in the Trump-Russia plot. Now it turns out Ivanka has a whole new problem.
Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner used their roles in the White House to push hard for a very specific kind of tax break for developers. Now the AP is reporting that the tax break in question just happens to benefit them personally. In other words, use your imagination as to why they pushed so hard for it. Is this illegal, or just immoral? That’s for smarter legal minds to figure out. But at the least, the optics on this are utterly terrible.
If Ivanka Trump were the smart one in the Trump family, she’d be laying low, keeping her hands clean, hoping that she ends up inheriting whatever is left of her father’s assets once he’s thrown in prison, and then perhaps doing something in the business world. Instead she’s destroying her reputation and setting herself up to potentially go to prison as well. It’s clear that there is no smart one in the Trump family.
