Ivanka Trump just stepped in it
When Ivanka Trump asked the judge to move her scheduled testimony from this week to next week, he obliged. And why not? It didn’t negatively impact the court’s ability to keep the trial running on time. But now Ivanka has stepped in it – and the judge is not happy.
After having already gotten her testimony delayed once, Ivanka asked the judge today to move her testimony again – this time citing the supposed difficulty in testifying on a weekday while her kids are in school. No really, this actually happened. It’s difficult to put into words how surreal this is, given that Ivanka is clearly a person of means who can have a nanny pick the kids up from school or something.
But in a good reminder that the Trumps are not getting any special treatment in this trial, the judge near-immediately rejected Ivanka’s request. Her testimony still remains on track for November 8th. She can try taking it up with the court of appeals, but it’s almost impossible such an appeal wouldn’t also be immediately rejected.
Ivanka will end up having to testify, and it’ll very likely be on November 8th. So what did she think she was accomplishing with this filing? Was she delusional enough to think it would work? Was this a play for public sympathy? Who knows.
But this was a bad idea for Ivanka Trump. She already tested the judge’s patience by having him reschedule her testimony once. Now she’s exceeded the judge’s patience by trying to get it rescheduled again. This means she’ll be taking the stand with a judge who’s already had enough of her crap, and will be less inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt if anything goes sideways during her testimony.
