Kevin McCarthy has now seemingly been reduced to begging for the endorsement of Marjorie Taylor Greene — or at least that is what Adam Kinzinger appears to think. Greene has begun a not-to-subtle campaign to put Kevin on notice. Last week she said he did not have all the votes needed to be the speaker. And she did not appear to be happy with the cowardly Kevin.

But now, the two have spoken — over the phone. What words were exchanged? I do not know the answer to that question — but Rep. Kinzinger had a few ideas. Here is his tweet: “Here is real strength, when Kevin McCarthy has to call a freshman begging for permission to stay in power. What has Kevin promised? The people deserve to know @GOPLeader?”

Folks, you don’t know how much I wish Kinzinger were staying, and it was Kevin McCarthy who was resigning. And I agree with Kinzinger. At this point, all I can think of is “The picture of Dorian Gray.” I’m serious. Kevin is stupid, but his sheer stupidity makes him an extremely dangerous man. He would appear to be willing to do anything to grasp the power that has remained elusively out of his grasp.

I would also like to know what was said in that phone call. What did Kevin promise in return for the fulfillment of his deepest wish? Did he promise to end the January sixth investigation? Did he promise to expel Liz Cheney? Did he promise his immortal soul? None of these things are beyond the scope of possibility, and the American people deserve to know the truth.

But one thing is clear to me. No matter what Kevin promised, it will never be enough for his unforgiving tormentor. And we will not let the House fall into enemy hands without a fight.
