It’s over for Steve Bannon

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It is so very pleasurable, is it not, when the right people get what’s coming to them? And for fanatic Steve Bannon, the journey to this moment has been a long and dusty one. Bannon did everything he possibly could do to worm his measly way out of the cards that fate had dealt him. It did him no good.

That’s because Bannon is no match for the unrelenting power of both fate and justice. Both were waiting quietly for him, and now both have pounced. And Bannon is not taking his lot in life well. Unleashing a torrent of vicious words, Bannon declared the charges against him were “phony.”

In fact, they are not phony. Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg brought these charges, and it is thought this indictment will resemble the federal one that Trump pardoned him on. This, of course, is related to Bannon’s “We build the wall” scheme. They did not build the wall, of course. Now it looks like the only thing Bannon is building is a lengthy prison sentence.

And Bannon also proclaimed that he had “not yet begun the fight.” Bannon might not be aware of it, but the fight is already over. Trumpism — Bannism — Maga — call it what you will, has long had an appointment in Samarra. Trumpism’s appointment in Samarra was always going to come. It HAD to. To put it bluntly, it could never last, couldn’t stand the test of time. The reason for this is because it is a cult — a minority viewpoint and one that most are repelled by.

And these authoritarian movements ALWAYS dissipate. It has happened not just in our country. Think of Canada and its fringe movement in the 1930s. It did not last, and in 1940, all fascist parties were banned under the Canada War Measures Act.

That’s not to say that these types of movements NEVER succeed or are not around for a while. But in most free countries, they simply do not succeed. Their believers are the fringe, and their numbers are small.

And to look at Trumpism now is to see it’s a slow journey into exile. Trump’s rallies are now tiny. The majority of Independents have said over and over they’re against Trumpism. The only thing Bannon is fighting is his ego. He may not realize it, but his worldview was always a fantasy, and always had an appointment in Samarra.
