It’s officially over for Jim Jordan: House Republicans forcibly remove him as Speaker candidate after failed third vote

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Jim Jordan forced a third vote for Speaker of the House this morning, and managed to lose 25 House Republicans in the process – an even more embarrassing showing than in the first two rounds. Now Jordan is officially out of the running, and against his will.

Multiple major news outlets are reporting that after Jordan’s third loss, House Republicans held a closed door vote to decide whether Jordan would remain their party’s nominee for Speaker. Jordan just now lost that vote, and is thus officially no longer a candidate for Speaker.

This is an utterly humiliating, yet totally fitting, end to Jim Jordan’s failed candidacy for Speaker. He acted like a bully. His supporters made several death threats against other House Republicans. And now Jordan is simply out.

It’s not immediately clear what will happen next. Will House Republicans now move forward with the plan to temporarily elevate the Interim Speaker? There didn’t seem to be enough support within their caucus for that yesterday, so we’ll see. But for now we’re pretty sure Jim Jordan is out back, crying, and burning his short-lived suit jacket in a dumpster fire.
