It’s just getting sad at this point
A favorite Republican pastime is to argue that the media is being biased or lying whenever it comes to representing Republican politicians or even any number of their cornerstone policies, which have a major disadvantage of being unpopular out of the gate with much of the American public.
Despite this complaining, however, a number of media outlets have done all they can to mollify Republican politicians and their base, even though in the last fifty years or so, it hasn’t done anything to get right-wing voters to order more copies of New York Times or watch CNN – much less get Republican politicians to stop complaining and lying about them. Donald Trump is far from the first right-wing candidate to trash the media on a regular basis – he just brought it to a fever pitch, even though his own candidacy has been seen by most mainstream producers as a cash grab for ratings.
His fellow Republicans regularly like to lambast media pundits for being unfair to the former guy, even though they usually give him softball interviews when they have him on. However, the campaign of Ron DeSantis, has suddenly changed its tone – given DeSantis’ loss in Iowa.
When media outlets called the Iowa caucus for Trump early (a rather easy call being that it was a low turnout affair), they may have spoiled a victory for DeSantis by discouraging people from voting. This is fairly laughable because DeSantis had a poor showing in Iowa, at an event that would have probably had poor turnout even in fair weather – but we’ll see how much more the other candidates continue to accuse the media of being pro-Trump before this contest is over.
