It’s happening whether we’re ready for it or not
For all the talk of election day being November 5th, that’s a bit of a misnomer. If you look around you’ll see that people are voting already. Early in-person voting and mail-in voting are underway in a number of states. For all the talk about trying to drive turnout on election day, the reality is that “election day” is today, and yesterday, and tomorrow.
Why does this matter? There are a few reasons. First there’s the obvious, which is that if you’ve been planning to get involved before election day in order to help drive voter turnout for Kamala Harris and the Democrats, let’s keep in mind that election day is happening already. Now is the time to sign up and get involved. But there are also other angles at play.
As polling has become less accurate and more Americans have begun voting early, there’s a rising science involving early voting data. It’s tricky to analyze, because we only get to see party registration and not which candidate the vote was actually cast for. But early voting data analysis proved to be more useful down the stretch in 2022 than polling did, and so we’ll keep an eye on what experts like Tom Bonier and Simon Rosenberg have to say about the topic.
There’s also the reality that, hey, you know, this election is happening whether we’re ready for it or not. The last day of voting is in under four weeks, and the first day of voting has already come and gone. Right now is our window of opportunity to make a difference. It’s not enough for people like you and me to vote. We’re the political activists, the political enthusiasts, the politically smart people. Of course we’re going to vote correctly. That’s baked in. We have to go out and get more votes for our side. Right now is our big chance to make history for the better. So let’s make it a good one. Donate now
