It’s a brand new day

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

What a difference a day can make. When yesterday began, we still had no idea who would take control of the Senate, and what the next four years would look like. But even as the major media networks take their sweet time calling the races, it’s all but certain that the Democrats have won both Senate seats in Georgia, giving them majority control of the Senate.

Now everything changes. President Joe Biden’s nominees will all be confirmed by the Senate. That includes his cabinet and his eventual Supreme Court picks. The Democrats will be able to enact into law any and all legislation that they can all agree on, considering they control the House, the Senate, and the White House.

The Democrats will also take control of the Senate committees. Lindsey Graham will no longer be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee; a Democrat will be Chairman. There will be no nonsensical Senate hearings on imaginary election fraud, or Hunter Biden conspiracies. None of that will happen.

There will still be a ton of work for us to do. But that work will be all about making as much progress happen as we can. Donald Trump will be out of office, tied up fighting criminal charges and bankruptcy. Mitch McConnell will be relegated to the powerless position of Senate Minority Leader, meaning he’ll just be another Republican whiner who can’t stop us from doing what we want. This is what we’ve worked so hard for, and now it’s here. It’s a brand new day.
