The art of Betrayal is practiced by many. And it comes in many forms. Nobody likes to be betrayed. And yet someone — or several people — did betray Kevin McCarthy, Mitch McConnell, and other Republicans.

The world heard this betrayal in the form of a tape. And there will be more tapes. So, who was it? Whom was the betrayer? Rick Wilson, Co-founder of the Lincoln Project, speculated on this. Wilson appeared on Joy Reid’s show and said he believes that Rep Elise Stefanik of New York could be the culprit.

“Today, the buzz in D.C. is all about Elise Stefanik that she’s the one behind this and putting the knife into this guy,” Wilson said. “She’s extremely ambitious,” Wilson went on. “She’s gotten very close to Trump, and she’s gone full MAGA.”

Wilson ended with this ominous warning: “Kevin should get a food taster at this point.” Indeed. I’ve no idea if Stefanik is the culprit or not. But it is obvious that there is betrayal in the Republican caucus, and said Betrayal is making the GOP very nervous.

Could it be Stefanik? It surely could. But there are other suspects as well.

This is a virtual Agatha Christie novel of suspects. And then there were — dozens? There are many sharp-fanged suspects that could be behind the curtain, pointing their betrayals at McCarthy and others.

Or it could even be more than one person. Who knows? It’s a real-life orient express of possible culprits, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier about this.

And what say you, media? Will we see headlines of “Republicans in disarray?” I hope so. This is huge, it is messy, and it’s not going away anytime soon. The GOP has a rotten core, and we will be seeing more and more of it.
