Is Ron DeSantis about to make things even worse for Donald Trump?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s becoming more clear by the day that the Manhattan District Attorney is going to criminally indict Donald Trump, and that Trump will stand trial in New York. Trump ran out of magic wands a long time ago, and he has no way out of this. But that doesn’t mean that he and his inept allies won’t try.

During her MSNBC show tonight, host Joy Reid said she’s hearing rumblings that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis might try to block Trump’s extradition from Florida to New York. We can only hope this is true, because DeSantis would only be making things worse for himself and for Trump.

Ron DeSantis is one of the relatively few major Republican politicians who owes his ascent entirely to Donald Trump; if not for Trump backing him in the 2018 Republican primary race for Governor, DeSantis would still be an obscure backwater Congressman. So if Trump asks DeSantis to fight extradition, it wouldn’t shock us if DeSantis feels compelled to go along with it.

To be clear, this would be a terrible idea that would backfire immensely. DeSantis doesn’t have magic powers, so while he might be able to slightly delay Trump’s extradition until the courts can stop laughing, he can’t stop it. And the whole thing would only serve to make Trump look very guilty in the eyes of the general public. Trump would effectively be a fugitive on the lam, until the courts shipped his butt back to New York. And it would end up harming DeSantis’ 2022 reelection prospects. So by all means, DeSantis, please proceed.
