Is Donald Trump trying to get himself locked up?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For as long as Donald Trump has been stupidly digging himself an even deeper hole, prominent pro-Trump and anti-Trump voices alike have been insisting that it was all part of Trump’s secret plan, and that he had us right where he wanted us.

First we were told that Trump had a plan to keep himself from getting indicted. Then, after that was proved wrong and Trump got indicted, we were then told that Trump had wanted to get indicted because it would make him more popular. Then after this also proved wrong and Trump didn’t get more popular, we were told that Trump wasn’t worried about his criminal trials because he had a plan to push them until after the election. Now that this is being proven wrong, we’re being told that Trump’s plan is to get thrown in jail because this is what will magically help him.

Not only do these types never turn out to be correct, they end up contradicting themselves every time they try to move the goalposts. Each time they lay out Trump’s latest supposed master plan, it proves that his previous master plan never existed. Yet this nonsense about Trump having a “master plan” continues, because it’s good for clicks in the meantime, and most audiences never do catch on that the people who make these kinds of predictions end up being correct 0% of the time.

This brings us to the current iteration of the supposed “Trump master plan” in which he’s supposedly trying to get himself thrown in jail on purpose because โ€“ get this โ€“ it’ll magically help him. There’s even a big new article from Rolling Stone which directly claims that Trump is indeed trying to do this. But the only on the record source for the article is Alan Dershowitz. Yes, that Alan Dershowitz. The guy who has been wrong about every legal thing he’s said for years.

Yet now that Trump’s ongoing destruction (and self destruction) are reaching a point where he will end up in a cell eventually and may end up in a cell rather soon, we’re being told that Trump is doing it on purpose, because he wants to get locked up, because getting thrown in jail is what will magically save him. This is frankly all too stupid to even wrap one’s head around.

Donald Trump is simply self destructing. His ongoing downward trajectory, which his own actions are hastening, makes that very clear. Either Trump is following the dumbest “plan” of all time, or he’s erratically burying himself. Given that he’s too senile these days to even put two coherent words together, it’s incredibly unlikely that he has a plan of any kind. Of course the same people who have insisted that Trump had a master plan every step of the way are now also trying to convince us that his worsening senility is just an act, and that’s what’s going to save him. Nevermind that the law doesn’t work that way, and senility wouldn’t keep him out of prison anyway.

In reality this is all getting sort of boring. Not the ongoing destruction of Donald Trump. That’s the fun part. But the part where he keeps doing one stupidly erratic and senile thing after another, and keeps losing worse and worse, and then people try to go viral by insisting that Trump’s incoherent behavior is part of some secret evil genius master plan? That part is quite boring indeed. Trump is going to jail because he’s a criminal and an idiot โ€“ not because it’s part of some grand plan to dig such a deep hole that he magically comes out the other side.
