Is Donald Trump about to fire another attorney?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. It really doesn’t matter how good an attorney is, if the client is an idiot who insists on calling the shots. It’s part of why Donald Trump keeps blowing through so many attorneys. A few of them have been good, most of them have been bad, several of them have been indicted. But none of that has much mattered, because Trump is the madman at the wheel of his own criminal defense.

To that end, Trump and his latest criminal defense attorney John Lauro tried the bizarre strategy of requesting a 2026 trial date, which was so unreasonable that the judge just ignored Trump’s side entirely and ordered a March 2024 trial instead. As I wrote last night, Trump and his attorney blew it royally. We all know that this kind of stupid strategy either came from Trump or was encouraged by Trump. But now one legal expert thinks that Trump might throw his latest attorney under the bus already.

Legal expert Harry Litman says that the hearing “could’ve been worse for Trump, but I’m not sure how.” He then added, “Does Trump now fire Lauro?” We’ll see. Every newly hired Trump attorney comes with an expiration date, but sometimes it can be tricky to predict precisely how long Trump will go before he decides to oust any given attorney for failing to make Trump’s bad ideas work.

In any case it’s all a good reminder that Donald Trump cannot “clever” his way out of this. And he certainly can’t do it by trying the world’s most simplistically stupid “clever” ideas. Asking for a trial date in 2026? That was only ever going to work against him. His latest attorney may indeed pay the price in terms of getting fired. But it’s Trump who will ultimately pay the price in terms of going to prison.
