Donald Trump just did something incredibly stupid with Iran

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Saudi Arabia was targeted today by major drone strikes, which may have taken out as much as half the nation’s oil production capacity. Rebels in Yemen are already taking credit for the attack, which isn’t surprising, considering the ongoing military conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. But that doesn’t fit the narrative that Donald Trump wants to push, so he’s simply making up his own narrative.

Donald Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who has a long track record of pushing whichever lies Trump wants out there at any given moment, has announced on Twitter that today’s drone strike was actually carried out by Iran. He’s providing no evidence of this, and even Saudi Arabia isn’t accusing Iran of having done it. Yet Trump’s stooge Pompeo is nonetheless making baseless accusations, because, well, Trump must want it that way.

What’s surreal is that Donald Trump just finished firing anti-Iran hawk John Bolton, amid reports that Trump is trying to cut a new peace deal with Iran. This makes sense, at least in Trumpian terms. Every foreign policy endeavor he’s tried has failed. The G7 laughs at him. Kim Jong Un toys with him. Trump recently tried to cut a peace deal with the Taliban, and even they thumbed their noses at him. Trump is so desperate for a foreign policy win, he’s apparently trying to give Iran a deal that’s worse than the Obama-era Iran deal that Trump just finished ripping up.

So why is the Trump regime suddenly blaming Iran for this attack on Saudi Arabia? That’s not entirely clear. It’s possible that Donald Trump is hoping to use this baseless accusation to try to gain leverage over Iran in any upcoming negotiations. But in reality, the failing Donald Trump needs Iran more than Iran needs Trump. After Pompeo’s stunt, don’t be shocked if Iran refuses to cut a deal with Trump.
