Donald Trump’s inner circle implodes

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

At this point it can be difficult to figure out who’s even left in Donald Trump’s inner political circle, considering how many of his top advisers have quit or been fired or gone to prison, and how few of them have been replaced. But among the people who are still surrounding Trump, let’s just say that it’s not going well for them right now.

The Daily Beast talked to sixteen people in Donald Trump’s inner circle this week, and only five of them are saying they think Trump has any real chance of winning. Keep in mind that these are Trump’s people and they’re supposed to be optimistic about their chances, yet even they’ve decided to put it out there that they think their ship is going down. One of Trump’s biggest donors wishes he’d given the money to the GOP Senate races insisted of giving it to Trump. Two of Trump’s unnamed foreign policy advisers are already planning for a Trump loss and trying to make trouble for an incoming President Biden.

This is just plain ugly. And yet it’s what you’d expect from a campaign that’s ten points down in the polls with three days to go. One of Donald Trump’s advisers says he’s in “denial” about his odds of winning. But denial isn’t a strategy. Trump is still just running around pandering to his existing supporters in order to feed his fragile narcissism, instead of trying to win over the additional votes he needs. No wonder his inner circle is imploding; they know this is a losing strategy whether Trump does or not.
