Everyone piles on after Donald Trump’s “Indian Country” debacle

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Of all the negative, ugly, and hideous traits that define Donald Trump, his racism is probably his most consistent. The guy can’t open his mouth without saying something racist, xenophobic, socially ignorant, or just plain awful. This afternoon Trump inexplicably tried to claim that he’s doing something right for Native Americans. Suffice it to say that it didn’t go well for him.

Donald Trump tweeted this: “Thank YOU Indian Country for being such an IMPORTANT part of the American story!” He then went on to take credit for supposedly boosting tribal sovereignty. Here’s the thing. Native Americans hold various opinions about being formally or informally being called “Indians.” But Trump used up any goodwill or benefit of the doubt a long time ago when he began referring to Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas,” making clear that he’s 100% racist toward Native Americans.

Twitter user @ScottWhoDrives posted this, which pretty much sums things up: “As an American male who is 1/8th Cherokee, I am NOT offended by the word ‘Indian.’ But as an American male in general, I AM offended by the word ‘Trump.'”

Meanwhile, @janjan2892 put it this way: “Indian Country is every square foot of North America. May be [it’s] time the tribes foreclose.”
