Senator lays out the roadmap to Donald Trump’s impeachment

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If Donald Trump is somehow still in office by the midterm elections in November, and if the Democrats win the congressional majority in those elections, impeachment proceedings against Trump will start immediately. He’s committed so many different kinds of crimes, the Democrats will have their choice of what to start with. Now one prominent Democratic Senator is laying out what he believes is the roadmap for Trump’s impeachment.

Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is moving in on Donald Trump and everyone else involved in the Trump-Russia scandal, conservative groups are hitting the panic button by urging Trump to begin pardoning everyone involved. Even if Trump did try it, most of those pardons would be rejected by the courts, on the ground that it would be illegal for Trump to pardon his alleged co-conspirators. It turns out such a move would also put Trump in legal trouble.

Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, who sits on one of the committees investigating the Trump-Russia scandal, posted a news article detailing the calls for Trump to begin pardoning his own people. Whitehouse added his own thoughts succinctly: “Want a road to impeachment? This is it.”

As things stand, the Democrats will be in a position to impeach Donald Trump for everything from obstruction of justice, to money laundering, to illegally refusing to implement the required sanctions against Russia, to conspiracy against the United States. It’ll be a veritable smorgasbord of charges, and the Mueller investigation is going to provide proof of all of the above. If Trump tries pardoning anyone on his way out the door, it’ll merely help ensure that he’s forced out that door.
