If this isn’t the ultimate symbolism for Donald Trump’s downfall, I don’t know what is
Once Donald Trump lost the 2020 election by too big of a margin to overcome with cheating, I wrote that his only real remaining relevance would be in terms of bankruptcy and prison. I said it would take time, and it has, but we’re now seeing it play out in spades. Trump just finished a civil trial that’ll end him financially. And he’s about to head into criminal trials that’ll end his freedom.
But even as this all plays out in increments, sometimes you just need a symbolic moment to help drive home the larger picture. We’re all waiting for Trump’s remaining assets like Trump Tower to be seized, sold, and presumably renamed. That’s coming soon enough. In the meantime, we just saw a major sign of Trump’s financial collapse even apart from his fraud trial.
Trump’s name has now been removed from a golf course in the Bronx. The giant sign out front has been changed from “Trump Links” to “Bally Links.” Donald Trump didn’t own this property to begin with, and instead merely had a contract that allowed him to operate it and keep his name on it. But the plug keeps getting pulled on him in a number of ways, and this is one of them.
Seeing the “Trump” name removed from a major New York City property, in the same week that Trump’s civil fraud trial concluded in disastrous fashion for him, couldn’t be more fitting. The trial damages against him will be announced around the end of this month, and then we’ll start to see even more of his assets and named properties disappearing from his reach. And then we’ll see him go to prison. Bring it on.
