If that’s all Trump’s got…
After Donald Trump started bottoming out with his swing state rallies, his handlers pulled him from the campaign trail for awhile. Trump was spending his rally speeches talking about serial killers and sharks and whining about the empty seats, and hurting himself more than helping.
But when you’re falling behind in a race down the stretch, being off the campaign trail is a good way to fall further behind. So as Trump’s numbers have gotten worse, his handlers stuck him back out there for a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
This should have been Trump at his best, given that he was coming off a long rest, and he had just taken instruction from his handlers about what to say. Instead Trump spent his Pennsylvania rally babbling about the marvels of rewinding live television, at one point misidentified Pennsylvania as “North Carolina,” and at another point asked why we’re even having an election. At various points in his speech, one side of Trump’s mouth didn’t seem to be working correctly.
And this was Trump at his best. This was him after a week of rest. This was him after spending a week listening to everything his advisors had to say. If what we saw at his Pennsylvania rally is now his ceiling, it’s going to be interesting to see where his floor is. This might well be bottomless.
