Even as Donald Trump is trying to fend off too many political and criminal scandals to list, his marriage has been falling apart in public view. His 2006 affair with Stormy Daniels, and his 2016 payoff to keep Daniels quiet during the election, were exposed several weeks back. Since that time, Melania Trump has been using every opportunity to display her displeasure qith her husband, making his political situation complicated. If she was upset with him before, guess what’s about to happen any day now.
The payoff has become a scandal of its own because Trump appears to have used campaign funds, which is illegal. Trump’s attorney tried to make the scandal go away last night when he claimed he made the six figure payoff out of his own pocket without involving Trump. Not only does no one believe that, Daniels says that Cohen violated the nondisclosure agreement by talking about the money (link). This means she’s about to go public with the entire story about her affair with Trump.
We already know that Melania is deeply upset at what’s transpiring. Either she didn’t know about any of it until it hit the headlines, or she did know about it and she feels newly humiliated that it’s become public knowledge. Either way, she’s going to be orders of magnitude more upset once Daniels sells the entire sordid story to the media. Melania’s actions toward her husband are likely to escalate accordingly.
As of now, Melania Trump is merely bailing on diplomatic trips and making Donald Trump attend them alone, showing up to the State of the Union apart from him, and relatively low key things along those lines. Once Daniels goes public with everything, what will Melania do? Will she begin publicly speaking out against him? Will she try to use it to invalidate the prenup and leave him? Trump can’t afford to have this happening at a time when all his other scandals are coming home to roost, and yet here we are.
