If Lindsey Graham and Lara Trump want to screw this up for the GOP, let them!

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If Lindsey Graham wants to make sure the Republicans are stuck with a non-viable candidate like Lara Trump in the 2022 North Carolina Senate race, then fine, so be it. That just means the Democrats will win the Senate seat in question.

Let’s think about this. Donald Trump is toxically unpopular, he just finished losing the presidential election by seven million votes, even after he thoroughly sabotaged the Post Office to keep people from being able to vote against him. Since that time Trump’s insurrection has made him even more unpopular, as his laughably bad approval rating makes clear.

Trump’s family members are going to be just as unpopular of candidates as he is, but even more unpopular because they don’t have that singular draw that he has when it comes to convincing bottom feeders to vote for him. And we’ve consistently seen over the past few years that Trump can almost never drive his base to turn out for other Republican candidates in any meaningful numbers. That might not be quite as severe when the candidate he’s stumping for has his last name, but it still won’t fully translate.

That’s before getting to the part where Donald Trump is broken, defeated, and too humiliated to even show his own face during his impeachment trial. And he’s lost his Twitter account. And criminal charges will be eating him alive by the midterms. He’s somehow going to be effective in getting Lara Trump elected? Of course not.

The kicker is that if the Trump family wanted to pull a stunt like this in a deeply red state, it just might work. But in such case they’d certainly face a Republican primary challenge, and that would boot Lara Trump from the race more quickly. The fact that she’s running in a state like North Carolina, where she’s more likely to lose in the general election than in the primary election, suggests that this is all just a cash grab, and that the Trump family is simply picking a losing race that’s likely to drag out longer.

As always, let this stupid Republican Party self destruct if it really wants to. The Democrats probably have a 50-50 shot of winning the North Carolina 2022 Senate seat in question, but if Lara Trump is the Republican candidate, then the odds of winning will go way up for the Democrats. And Lindsey Graham, who is now under confirmed criminal investigation for election fraud in Georgia, may have far bigger problems by 2022 than trying to stump for a Senate candidate with a toxically unpopular last name.
