If Donald Trump announces a 2024 campaign, it “won’t save him” from DOJ prosecution

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This week we had to endure yet another mainstream media narrative falsely implying that the DOJ has let Donald Trump off the legal hook. This time it was so damaging to the public discourse, Attorney General Merrick Garland forcefully explained that the DOJ’s Trump 1/6 probe will indeed go all the way to the top, and that Trump’s status as a former President or potential future presidential candidate won’t change anything.

This is of course far from the first time that Garland and his top DOJ deputies have had to publicly state this, each time in response to baseless narratives from the media. It’s still not clear if the media will finally let Garland’s words stand this time, or if the media will once again revert back to its usual ratings-driven narratives about the DOJ having decided to let Trump off the hook.

In any case, standout political analyst Dean Obeidallah has published a new article on MSNBC.com in which he explains why Trump can’t just magically get himself off the legal hook by announcing a presidential campaign. Or as Obeidallah puts it, “If Trump thinks being a candidate will save him from prosecution, he doesn’t know the DOJ.”

Obeidallah goes on to point out numerous instances of political candidates being prosecuted by the DOJ just months before the election they’re running in. In Donald Trump’s case, he’s threatening to announce a campaign for an election that won’t take place for more than two years. Trump cannot just magically get himself off the hook.
