“I don’t recall”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

“I don’t recall” is a favorite term of many of those people who have the unfortunate privilege of having to take the stand in their own defense in courts of law. And when some of these people take the stand in their own defense they don’t want to tell the truth because the truth does not serve their side. But they don’t want to outright lie, either. So they call upon those three magical little words they think will make everything better: “I don’t recall.”

Mike Pence is doing that right now. You see it’s come to light that Trump tried to pressure the then Arizona Governor Doug Ducey to overturn the election results. And he did that by asking PENCE to do it.

So now, naturally, all the reporters want a statement from Pence. And they got one. That statement is, “I don’t recall.” Not specifically in those words. Pence did admit to CBS News he called Ducey but denied pressuring him. OK. Then Pence was asked if HE was pressured by Donald Trump. And that’s when Pence put his “I don’t recall” hat on.

Looking puzzled (and a bit silly), Pence said: “No, I don’t remember any pressure.”

Stop right there! “I don’t remember” is “I don’t recall.” It is NOT denial. And in my opinion — of COURSE, Trump pressured Pence. The reason I believe this is that Trump is a bully, a big, meaty orange monster, and he doesn’t know how to communicate WITHOUT pressure.

But Pence won’t says that. The people who tried to hang him would be FURIOUS. It’s sad. It’s sad the utterly cowardly, stupid things one will do for power. Any sympathy I had for Pence’s plight has long since left.

Pence said the thing with Ducey was more about “information gathering.” Right. It doesn’t matter, ultimately. Trump, if he DID exert pressure on Ducey and break the law, he might just be indicted in Arizona too. At this rate, trump is gunning to be a 50-state indictee. Would; that be delicious?

But as for Pence — I do wish he’d do a search for that missing spine of his that is in deep hiding and that he may never see again. Pence is making a fool of himself with his equivocating and “I don’t recall” attitude. He’ll realize that soon enough when he fails to break 5 percent in the polls.
