Rudy Giuliani goes completely off the deep end as grand jury targets him
Earlier this evening we learned that Rudy Giuliani no longer has any attorneys representing him in his Ukraine whistleblower scandal, even though he’s battling an impeachment subpoena, and he’s being targeted by a federal grand jury for indictment and arrest. Now it turns out it’s even more bonkers than we thought.
It’s not that the departure of Rudy Giuliani’s attorney Jon Sale today came unexpectedly, and that Rudy hasn’t yet had the opportunity to find someone new to represent him in the huge legal battles he’s about to face. It’s that he has no intention of hiring a new attorney. No, really.
Rudy Giuliani just tweeted “I will not participate in an illegitimate, unconstitutional, and baseless ‘impeachment inquiry.'” He then added, “At this time, I do not need a lawyer.” Really? Because right now there are few people in the country who need a lawyer more than Rudy does.
This brings us back to the essential question. Is Rudy Giuliani going without a lawyer because he expects to be pardoned by Donald Trump? Even if such a pardon is coming, which we kind of doubt, the financial nature of Rudy’s crimes means that he’ll get hit with state level charges by New York State if he’s pardoned on federal charges. So a pardon wouldn’t help Rudy at all. The other possibility is that Rudy is simply so far off the deep end, he’s decided that he can magically represent himself as he heads into the legal fight of his life.
